Ce Me London on London Fashion Week

24th Feb 2010 13:48:23

Creating couture cut dresses is what Ce Me London do, so we are always interested to see what the greats are offering on the catwalk.

Our designer is a Central St. Martins graduate, so we feel the London fashion week is particularly close to our heart.

Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label collection is proof that some trends are here to stay, and we were delighted to see the animal print going from strength to strength, in a beautiful heart neckline dress. Westwood has teamed the animal print with a gold foiling – which sparkles in the light – perfect for parties.

Basso and Brooke have emphasized the fact that prints are here – with mesmerizing geometrical patterns to compliment any skin tone, and any occasion.

One thing I have felt so far is that London Fashion Week has not created as much of a spectacle as other fashion weeks – the emphasis appears to be on the clothing, not the show, which is interesting, and actually, refreshing.

One thing you cannot ignore is the focus on the goth trend. Models are splashed with divine ebony shades, and deep dark colours. Far East cranked up the fetish notch with a collection to coax even the wildest child even further out of their shell.

Louise Goldin amplified the goth theme, but added a futuristic spin to her collection. With shimmering fabrics, and flattering silhouettes, it is a collection that will inspire the coming seasons.

Matthew Williamson’s collection is a little more elegant and grown up than his previous collections, but is undoubtedly a spectrum of dazzling colours, proving that this year, winter is not all doom and gloom, but a divine mixture of shades, and femininity.

Christopher Kane has created a collection that is an incredible synergy of leather, lace, satin and flowers. Keep an eye on this, as I feel this will reveal as a new trend; it is fashion breaking down boundaries, the mixture of the fabric signals a change.

One thing to celebrate is the use of plus sized models. Love them, or hate them, they are more womanly, more feminine, and ultimately, more realistic.  Mark Fast has triumphed at LFW with his use of plus sized (or normal sized women, to you and I) models. His body con cut means that women’s curves are intensified; which is a fabulous thing. If you have the confidence to con, then embrace it, it is about time the curvaceous woman is adored in fashion.

Of course, this London Fashion week has been tinged with the sadness of the loss of a London designer, Alexander McQueen. It is tragic to have lost a true creator of fashion, particularly at such a young age. We at Ce Me London pay our respects to the talent, the vision, and inspiration of Alexander McQueen. You will be missed.
